The size of you bakery does not matter to us. Your may be a home based business selling products at the farmers market and you need a certificate of liability insurance for the municipality where the market is located. We can help you with nicely priced products from several competing insurers. Or, you are a retail baker with a small shop front and some tables, we have many choices of bakery insurance products for you also. Then again, you might be a wholesale bakery with distribution. Once again we are pleased to build a package of policies because we have many solutions for the entire operation. For fee details call 607.843.8860. If you have us design a policy or policies with companies that we represent as an agent we do not charge a fee.*
Costs, what are the average costs? Bakeries are considered safer operations than commercial cooking. So you save money off of standard restaurant policies. Many times small bakeries are covered to the extent the owner wishes for under $500. However this may not be enough coverage for other bakeries. There is also the need for employment insurances for bakeries like Workers Compensation and New York State Disability. The way your business works and your business strategy should be considered when creating your insurance protection strategy. We want to build a bakers insurance plan for you. Contact us for an insurance plan designed to fit your business strategy and needs.
Another factor that saves bakeries insurance premiums is not having cooking or deep frying operations.
What would be the best insurance for a bakery? That depends on the bakery. Below is a list of some common bakery insurance solutions.
Dividend Potential -
There are insurance company and state specific property/liability and workers compensation safety groups that have dividend programs. If a dividend is declared, a percentage of the premium is returned to you the policy holder if eligible.
By law dividends cannot be guaranteed and are subject to approval by the insurer's board of directors.

Coverage Options Available:
-
Building
-
Glass - Most often what we see is that the bakery does not own the building it occupies. This is even the case when the building and the bakery have the same ownership. Usually the windows are contractually the responsibility of the bakery tenant. Because of this, a special endorsement may be needed on your policy protecting you from this contractual liability.
-
Business Personal Property
-
Fixtures - Many times you must upgrade the building you occupy by attaching fixtures, beautification and lighting elements to the building. This now makes the enhancements part of the building. To cover your interest in these a special endorsement may be needed on your policy.
-
Inventory -
-
Refrigerated Products/Spoilage - To get this coverage at the best price you should keep an active contract with your HVAC up to date and have your refrigeration and freezing units serviced regularly.
-
Property of Others - Refrigeration, beverage systems and display cases are often provided by your vendors. You are responsible for them, therefore you need to insure them.
-
Spoilage Coverage than can reimburse you for food lost due to a power outage or refrigerant contamination.
-
Goods in transit coverage
-
Computer Coverage
-
There are at least 18 additional coverage options you may include.
-
Loss of Use of Premises
-
Additional Expenses - In the event of a loss not only do you lose the use of the premises, your expenses increase as you try to keep you customers. This is especially the case of a wholesale bakery. Serious consideration of this coverage is needed if this is your concern.
-
Liability
-
Commercial General Liability
-
Personal Injury Liability
-
Products Liability - Is especially important when food and prepared food is your product. There are some policies that do not include this type of liability. Yet another reason you should contact DRickard Insurance for you Bakery Insurance needs. 607-843-8860
-
Cyber Liability - You have a legal responsibility to protect consumers from there information being stolen. If it is stolen you have a legal responsibility to help the possibly harmed consumers. A loss could financially cripple you business. You take credit cards for payments all day long. Criminals want that information and are trying to get it. Your staff may be one of those criminals you need this protection! This coverage may include privacy and security breach liability, breach notice service, plus risk management services.
-
Liquor Legal Liability
-
Identity Theft and Cyber Crime - Both businesses and persons are falling victim to these crimes. The more your information is digitally available the more you, your customers, and your business is exposed. The government has made rules about how a business must protect the public and what the business must do if there is a security breach. In many cases an uninsured breach will destroy your company.
-
Business Auto - Most bakeries have some delivery. Even if it is with the owner's personal auto. Often times employees may be asked to run errands. For this reason even small bakeries need forms of auto insurance. Even if it is hired and non-owned auto. Also, the business should maintain abstracts of every driver's Department of Motor Vehicles report updated at least annually. If a driver has a poor driving history they should no longer be allowed to drive.
